History of the company

Burdica Biomed Ltd. (BBL) was founded in October 2007 by Kevin Burd MBA and Dr Xiaobin Zhao, who between them had over 30 years of experience in the biomedical and medical devices sector. Kevin Burd, now Burdica's CEO, is recognised internationally for his operations management expertise and commercial acumen. Xiaobin Zhao, now a consultant to the company, has extensive experience of research, development and commercialisation of advanced medical polymers.

Before establishing Burdica, the founders had worked together for four years at Mentor Biopolymers Ltd. (now part of Johnston & Johnston), where Xiaobin was Head of R&D when Kevin joined the company as Head of Operations. Together they achieved the product and process advances which led to a successful international launch of Puragen, an injectable filler for the cosmetic anti-ageing market. Within three years this product was being distributed in over 70 countries and was generating sales of over $10 million per annum.

Burdica has built a strong board and executive team which brings together a formidable range of expertise and experience gained in the medical devices, pharmaceutical and other sectors. Building on this body of knowledge and experience, BBL aims to commercialise a portfolio of advanced medical biopolymers and related products with applications in fields including reproductive health, aesthetics, urology and wound care. These products will incorporate current and next generation technology derived from the Company's proprietary IP.
